Mild autismhas 'selective advantages'
Wed Apr 1, 2009
I don't have Asperger's, but my father, my brother and one of my best friends do. They are all highly intelligent, but incredibly difficult to deal with. I never quite understood why my father could be so analytical, but so distant.
Times Square bomber gets life sentence
Tue Oct 5, 2010
At the very least this guy needs a brain transplant. Telling an American judge that he wants to kill American civilians (including children no doubt), and that his oath to pay allegiance to the US was a lie, probably wasn't the smartest thing to do.
An ancient dilemma: Debating aging senators
Wed Sep 15, 2010
If the Senate were an airline, and the voters were management, the decision to retire elderly Senators would be easier. It's one thing to keep on employees who do not pilot airplanes, but another for those who do.
What's your take on the Jetblue flight attendant who fled the plane via the emergency chute after he got into an argument with an unruly passenger?
Tue Aug 10, 2010

Primary winners highlight political inexperience
Wed Aug 11, 2010

Taliban execute Afghan woman in public, police say
Mon Aug 9, 2010
This event still shocks the conscience, even if we expect the bad behavior. This event is news, but the core of the news is that we can expect more of this conduct in the future.
Christian group denies Afghan Taliban claims over dead workers
Sun Aug 8, 2010
Freedom of religion depends, like every other freedom, on the willingness of the people to protect it even if it grates on them.
Army's high suicide rate tied to rise in risky behaviors
Thu Jul 29, 2010
Any number of reports show that PTSD catches up with every soldier (except a psychopath) if he/she stays too close to the action for too long. In fact, one study showed that the closer to the enemy a soldier was when using a weapon, the greater the chance of PTSD.
Why we miss what's right in front of us
Mon Jul 12, 2010
Check out Frameworks: Conflict in Balance. The book describes how context makes variables invisible and visible depending on the theory de jour. The most obvious things can disappear in front of our eyes and the most obscure can become a neon light.
U.S. deports 10 Russian spies
Wed Jul 7, 2010
I always thought that the real reason for picking up the spies at this point in time was to exchange them for someone in Russia. It's like having a reserve bank account --- when our spies get caught, we pick up their spies.
